Come With Me Back to the Classes of the Fifties
The classmate social activities of the classes of the 1950s in Huntsville, Al, revolved around school clubs, ballgames, band, choir, movies, dating, and part-time jobs. We had no fear of school shootings (guns could be found on campus for hunting, etc.) and I never knew of police being called to campus for any type of disturbance. The principal was “king.” The students of today do not enjoy the level of freedom or trust that we had.
